So far, so basic |
So far, pressure management has been so basic
With basic pressure management, a PRV (pressure reducing valve) is installed at the inlet to a DMA (district meter area). The PRV must be set to allow for the highest day time consumption. The opportunity to reduce pressure during off peak periods is lost.
Pressure controllers designed to address this have, so far, had high set up and maintenance costs, low reliability and only basic pressure control. Some controllers switch crudely between day and night settings, with no adjustment in between. Others require costly manual calibration by a consultant and are unable to adjust their calibration over time.
All rather basic. And, given potential environmental and cost savings, rather surprising that more rapid development hasn’t materialised.
Now, pressure management is advanced.
