Pressure Management
Water companies in the UK are facing ever more demanding leakage targets while at the same time coming under severe cost pressure. Mains replacement, highly capital intensive, has not always proved effective. Many water companies have reached the limits of find and fix which is similarly costly and does not deal with 'background leakage' - the thousands of small leaks that add up to big losses.
Better pressure management is an immediate and cost effective solution. However, pressure controllers available to date have had high set up and maintenance costs, low reliability and only basic pressure control.
Now i2O has developed pressure management technology that is advanced enough to adjust to changes in the network and in patterns of usage, optimising water saving. It comes at low capital cost and provides a host of daily performance data.
The i2O system continuously controls the pressure of the water going into a DMA so that under all demand conditions, the average zone pressure (AZP) is kept to the minimum necessary to meet consumers' legitimate requirements.
Significant gains can be made even in systems that already have low pressures. For example, assuming a linear pressure/leakage relationship, a reduction in AZP from 30m to 24m would reduce leakage by 20% - without fixing a single leak!
