Bursts are bad

200 bursts per 1000km of water main....every year

New bursts are bad for business

The principle holds true for new bursts, which occur in the UK at an annual rate of 200 per 1000km of water main and where an estimated 30% of bursts go unreported. The cost of each repair is between £600 and £1,000.

Bursts disrupt supply, shorten the life of pipes, affect surrounding property and transport and are expensive to repair. Being so visible they have a disproportionately negative effect on the public’s perception of water companies.

Reduce burst frequency and brand image improves.
